Announces Major Cookoff! I am proud to announce the Mandalay Bay’s “Heatin’ Up the Bay” BBQ and Chili Cookoff presented by Smart and Final. This cook off will be held November 7th and 8th ,2003, in Las Vegas, Nevada at one of the world’s most exciting destinations. The Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino on the strip is next to its sister properties the Luxor and Excalibur. The BBQ and Chili cook off will be in conjunction with the Pro Bull Riders Built Ford Tough World Finals. The Mandalay Bay will host the PBR Party Zone and we will be in that area. The BBQ will be sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society and the chili will be by the International Chili Society sanctioned. The total prize money for the BBQ will be $40,000 with the Grand Champions purse at $12,000. The categories will be the normal four categories, dessert, anything butt on Friday night and sauce. The chili total prize purse is $20,000 divided out into their three categories, Red Chili, Chili Verde and Salsa. Along with the information posted above there will be parties for both sanctioning bodies, room packages at all three hotels, entertainment both days on the PBR Party Zone stage and the Country Christmas Arts and Craft Fair in the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, one of the biggest in the area. Chef Jamie Gwen will also be on hand to give both bbq and chili demonstrations on the Smart and Final stage. Check out the cook off sponsor at www.smartandfinal.com. Ford, Jack Daniels and Bud Light will also have displays in the area too! The BBQ entry fee will be $400.00 for all categories and will include your space, electric and water near by. Additional space will be offered at an additional charge. All prize monies will be escrowed before the contest. For anyone interested in entering the cook off and or judging please send me your Name, Address, Phone, Email, etc. The contest reps will be Carolyn Wells, Ron Harwell and Tony Stone if we have over fifty teams.
